I’m Jon, a home networking expert with first-hand knowledge of practically all problems involving Comcast Xfinity modems and routers.

This tutorial was created to assist you in resolving your blue light issue because I have already experienced it and fixed it.

In order to understand what the blue light on your Xfinity modem/router indicates and how to fix it, please continue reading.

What a Blinking Blue Light on an Xfinity Comcast Modem/Router Means

Let’s quickly review what the flickering blue light on Xfinity routers means before we discuss how to fix it.

Your Xfinity modem or router is normally in WPS pairing mode if the blue light on it is blinking.

Wi-Fi Protected Setup, or WPS, is a function that enables you to connect Xfinity Wi-Fi-capable devices to your network without inputting a password.

However, if the blue light on your Xfinity modem/router didn’t start blinking when it was in WPS mode and you can’t seem to stop it, there might be another problem at play.

In that case, you can test out a few of the methods in this manual to see if they work to resolve the blinking blue light issue with your Xfinity router.

How to Fix Your Comcast Xfinity Modem and Router’s Blinking Blue Light

On Xfinity modems and routers, the blue light can be fixed in a number of ways.

It’s recommended to try them all until you find one that works because some of these remedies might be effective for you while others might not.

You can attempt the following solutions for Xfinity modem and router blue lights:

#1 Then, on your Xfinity modem or router, press the WPS button.

You might try pushing the WPS button on your Xfinity modem or router to see if that stops the blue light from blinking. This should disable WPS mode and stop the blue light from flashing if the blue light on your Xfinity device was blinking as a result.

Do not be concerned if pushing the WPS button does not function or if your Xfinity modem or router lacks a WPS button. You can still try further Xfinity blue light remedies.

#2 Restart or cycle the router’s power.

Try power cycling your Xfinity modem or router if hitting the WPS button (if your Xfinity device has one) doesn’t stop the blue light from blinking. To accomplish this, unhook your Xfinity device’s power cord, wait 5–10 seconds, and then plug it back in.

You may also just hit the power button to turn it off. Any approach will do.

Wait a few minutes after restarting your Xfinity modem/router to see whether the blue light begins to blink. If it does, try another solution from this list for the Xfinity blue light.

#3 Check Your Connections and Cables

The blue light may be blinking because of a problem with one of your cords or connections if you’ve attempted all of the Xfinity blue light repairs listed above. Disconnect all Ethernet and Coax wires from your Xfinity modem or router, wait a little while, then reattach them to inspect them.

Note: Disconnect all cords from your modem and router if they are separate. However, your router/modem is probably a hybrid device if it was provided by Comcast (modem and router in one device).

Wait a minute or two after re-establishing all of your Xfinity connections and cables before checking to see if the blue light is blinking once more.

#4 Factory Defaults Restore

Your last recourse is to reset your Xfinity device to factory defaults if you’ve tried all of the solutions for the Xfinity blue light issues listed above and the blue light is still blinking.

Any customized settings you’ve established on your Xfinity device will be deleted if you do this, so make a note of them first. Press and hold the reset button for roughly 10 seconds to return your Xfinity device to factory settings.

Wait a few minutes after setting your Xfinity device back to factory defaults to see if the blue light starts to stop blinking.

After attempting each of these Xfinity blue light repairs and the blue light on your modem or router is still blinking, your last recourse is to call Xfinity support.

#5 Get support from Comcast Xfinity.

You must get in touch with Xfinity support if you’ve attempted all of the aforementioned Xfinity blue light repairs and the blue light is still blinking.

By phone or chat, you can get in touch with Xfinity support, and they might be able to assist you in troubleshooting the problem. They might have to send a technician to your home if they can’t resolve the issue over the phone or through chat. For in-person assistance, you can also go to an Xfinity store.

Conclusion

There are a few Xfinity blue light remedies that you can attempt if the blue light on your modem or router is blinking.

You can try restarting WPS mode, power cycling your Xfinity device, resetting it to factory defaults, and other troubleshooting techniques. You must get in touch with Xfinity assistance if none of these fixes work.

You can upgrade to a new modem and router if you’re sick of having problems with the equipment that Comcast provides. See our guide to Comcast-approved modems and routers.
