Overview
You can keep all of your information, including pictures, Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, and more, in the cloud with Google Drive. Additionally, you can edit Word files in Google Docs and convert Word files to Google Docs files.
You can use your computer or browser to open the files in your Drive folder. Other files in your Drive folder will open in your default computer program me (for example, open a PDF file in Adobe Reader®), while files written in Google Docs will open in your browser or mobile app.

Arrangements and conditions
Basic requirement
The folders and files you upload to Drive should be saved locally on your computer.
Prior to selecting Start Lab
Please read the following instructions. Time in the lab is recorded and cannot be stopped. To start the timer and find out when your Google Workspace resources are accessible, click Start Lab.
Instead of using a simulation or demo environment, this Google Workspace hands-on lab enables you to carry out the lab tasks on your own in a genuine cloud environment. As a result, you will be given fresh temporary login information to use for the duration of the lab to access Google Workspace.
Required items
You’ll need the following to finish this lab:
- conventional Internet browser (Chrome is recommended)
- time. The length of time needed to finish each step is indicated at the top of the left panel. Please change your plans so that you have enough time to study before the lab is over. Once the lab has begun, it cannot be interrupted in the middle and resumed later (the lab always starts at step 1).
- There is no need for a Google Workspace administrator account. The lab includes accounts, assignments, and related materials.
Start a lab
Click Start Lab in the top left panel when you are ready.
Verify the lab user’s email and password.
To access the tools and consoles used in the lab, verify your user email and password in the left panel. The login information for Google Drive is as follows.
This panel will show any additional resource ID or connection-related information that the lab requires.
Register with Google Drive.
- Click Google Drive to open it.
Tip: Keep each tab open in a different window and adjacent to one another.
- The user’s email address is already pre-populated in the Email Address or Phone Number field. Select Next.
- After providing your password, click Next.
- As directed, accept all terms and conditions.
I was able to sign into my student Google account as soon as Google Drive opened.
Task 1.Save and upload
Any type of content, including pictures, sketches, and videos, can be kept in Drive. When you save files to one device’s drive, they will instantly be accessible on all of your other devices.
Publish documents to Drive
Upload the file from your online browser to Drive to save it.
- Using the left pane, select New > File Upload.
- Click Open after choosing a file from your PC.
The file will be accessible from any device with Drive installed and from any browser once it has been successfully uploaded, as indicated by the word “Uploaded” in the bottom right corner.
- Select Upload Folder under New.
- To use in this lab, upload a few files or folders from your personal computer.
When a file or folder with the same name is uploaded to Drive, you have the option of replacing the existing file or folder or keeping both files and folders.
- To upload a file, select New.
- Select the same file you uploaded earlier on your computer and click Open.
- Select Change the current file, then click Upload.
If you wish to manage or examine earlier iterations of files and folders:
- Right-click the file you just uploaded in Drive and select Manage Versions from the menu.
- To access revision 1, click on the file’s designation.

A green check mark and the words “Upload complete” will appear next to the file once it has been uploaded successfully.
Every browser and device with Drive installed can access uploaded files.
Make sure you’re moving toward your objectives by monitoring your progress.
Task 2. File Access
Using a computer, phone, tablet, or other device, you can access your Google Drive documents from anywhere. Drive immediately syncs your modifications when you update a file there. For instance, if you change a file on your tablet and then open it on your laptop, the updates will be visible.
Access offline files
Set up Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides offline access.
- Select Settings by clicking the Settings symbol in Drive. Configuration
- Check the Sync Google Files box under Offline.
- Select “Done.”
Set up offline access on your computer for Microsoft Office, PDFs, and other files.
Click Settings > Download Drive for desktop in Drive to enable offline access for PDFs, Microsoft Office documents, and other types of files. A page for Google Drive will appear.
The Drive app for PC is available for download right now. You can use Google Drive on your browser, smartphone, tablet, or computer by following the steps on the Google Drive page for downloading the program me for additional platforms.
Task 3. View and current
This paragraph explains how to:

View and download online storage files
It’s simple to inspect files in Drive. Click Preview from the context menu of the uploaded file.
To view the following choices, click the icons above and below the overlay:
- Use one of the suggested programmes to open a file.

- To view the previous or next file in the drive, click either the left or right arrow icon.
- To edit the file, open it.

File open
Double-click the file you wish to open in Drive.
Backup Drive files
See Recover deleted files for information on how to get older versions of files that weren’t generated in Google Docs, Sheets, or Slides.
Remove the file.
When you remove a file from Drive on one device, Drive also removes it from the web and all of your other devices.
- Select the file and trash can icon in Drive to remove it. select the trash can symbol in the top-right corner.
- Move files to the Trash by selecting Trash on the left pane in order to restore them. rubbish bin icon
- Select the files or folders you wish to restore with a right-click, then click Restore.
- By following the same steps as in step 3, you can choose to restore several files or directories at once.
Delete files forever
To move it to the trash, click the trash can icon in the left window.
- Right-click a file in the Trash and select Permanently Delete to remove it forever.
- To remove all files from the Trash, click Empty Trash. Click Permanently Remove after that.
Task 4. Organize and locate
The drive has now been updated with all files. Here are some ideas for file organization.

Making a folder
You can arrange your files from any device by adding new folders that you create in Drive File Stream on your PC or Drive on the web.
- Choosing My Drive from the left pane.
- Click Folder > New.
- Vital Information Choose a folder name, then select Create.
In My Drive, the newly created folder is visible.
Make sure you’re on track with your objectives by monitoring your progress.
Place files in folders
In order to move files to directories on My Drive:
- Drag and dropping is the simplest method for transferring files into folders.
- Another option is to right-click the file, choose Move to, and then choose a folder.
Note essential documents or folders
To help you discover anything later, mark key files or folders with a star.
- Select Add Star by performing a right-click on a file or folder.
- To view all starred files and folders, click the Starred file icon in the left pane.
Locate and arrange files or directories.
Finding a certain file visually among hundreds of files is a difficult task. Instead, let’s search by Drive.
To look for documents or folders in Drive:
- In the top search box for Drive, type a word or phrase.
Search recommendations display as you begin typing text to aid in expediting your search.
- To view a list of search results, click the search symbol, or click a recommendation to open it.
Using the advanced search features:
- To the right of the search field, click the down arrow symbol. To limit your results, choose an option (or any combination of options).
- Type – File type search.
- Owner: Filter results by file owner.
- Location-based searches (including trash and starred items). Only folders in My Drive or Team Drives can be searched. Folders that have been shared with you must first be added to My Drive before you can search them.
- Date Modified: Look for items that have recently been changed (including those modified by users other than yourself).
- Search for terms in file names using the item name.
- Contains Words – Locates documents that include a given term.
- Check the “Shared With” field to see who has access to the file.
- Follow Up – Locate any files that you possess and which contain recommendations or to which you have been given action items.
- Select Search.
Task 5. Share and Work Together
To work on documents with coworkers or anyone outside your company, share a Drive file or folder.

Share files, control visibility and access rights
Share particular persons with specified files or folders.
Only files that you own or have access to change can be shared.
- Share can be chosen by right-clicking a file or folder in My Drive.
- Enter the email address that you have permission to share with yourself under Share with persons and groups.
- Choose an access level by clicking Editor (top right).
- Editors – Team members are able to add, edit, and add comments to content.
- Viewer (can remark) (can comment) (Only for files) Participants may leave comments but not alter the text.
- Viewer: This user can only see files; they are not editable or commentable.
You can do this by emailing the file or folder’s link to yourself.
- Enter a note (optional) to include a note in your email. To stop sending emails, uncheck the Notification item.
- A submit button will appear.
To share a link to a file or folder
Send access links to files or folders to other users so they can view them. When you share a link, keep in mind that you will be displayed as the owner.
Only files that you own or have access to change can be shared.
- Right-click the folder you want to share in Drive, Important Data, and choose Get Link.
- Select Qwiklabs from Restricted by clicking it.
- Choose an access level by clicking Viewer (top right).
- Editors – Team members are able to add, edit, and add comments to content.
- Viewer (can comment) – Collaborators may contribute comments but not alter the content (only for files).
- Viewer: This user can only see files; they are not editable or commendable.
- Then select Copy link.
- Select “Done.”
- You may now paste the URL into an email or another shareable site.
Make sure you’re on track with your objectives by monitoring your progress.
Remove a file or folder that you own from a server that is shared:
- Choose the shared file or folder in Drive.
- Select Share (if you successfully shared the file with the other person in the previous step).
- To stop sharing a file or folder with someone, select their access level (Editor, Viewer, or Viewer (can comment)) next to them, then select Remove.
- To save changes, click.
- Select “Done.”
To delete a link to a folder or file that you own:
People you share with can still access the file even if you delete the link to a file or folder you own.
- Right-click the folder you want to share in Drive’s Important Data and choose Get Link.
- Select Limited under Qwiklabs.
- Select “Done.”
Observe Drive activity and file information
View every update made to everything you’ve uploaded or produced in Drive. Additionally, you can access precise details about files and directories.
To view activities on your Drive under the History tab:
The following modifications to items in Drive are visible:
- the person who made the upload, copy, move, or deletion
- Individuals who shared or deleted the item
- users who made remarks, edits, or renaming’s
- Changes Affecting Users
In the Details tab, select Drive activity to view:
To view information and modifications for a selected file or folder in Drive, click the Show details Details display icon icon in the activity pane’s top right corner.

Work with the editors of Google Docs
Multiple individuals can work together in real time on the same page using Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, and Sites. The comment feature allows you to share any file, saving you the hassle and time of sending out emails frequently.
Choose one of the following file types by clicking New:
