The Ghana card is the only document that supports the re-registration of Sim cards, according to the Minister of Communications and Digitizations.

The law stipulates that “Only the National ID card, the Ghana card, issued to a person shall be used for registration of Sim cards of nationals.

Foreign residents in Ghana, and foreigners staying in Ghana for more than 90 days.”

Sim cards from foreign nationals who intend to stay in Ghana for fewer than 90 days may also be registered with passports. After 30 days, their SIM cards will no longer function.

Foreign visitors to Ghana can purchase a SIM card using their passport or travel card. But they can only use it for 30 days before it expires and is no longer functional.

Foreigners who wish to use the SIM card for a period longer than 30 days must obtain a non-citizen Ghana card, she continued.

The Minister added that Ghanaians can register and pick up their Ghana cards at regional and district offices for the SIM Card registration process.

“The NIA is opening District and Regional Offices to enable Ghanaians who have not yet registered for their Ghana Card to do so.

And we encourage all Ghanaians and Foreigners resident in Ghana to make sure that they have their Ghana Cards and Non-Citizen Ghana Cards available.”

Additionally, she added, “Those who have registered but have not yet picked up their Ghana Cards should be able to do so from the various NIA offices.

How To Register Your SIM With Ghana Card & USSD Short Code

Mobile customers must dial the USSD Shortcode *404# (All networks) during Stage 1 of the National SIM card registration or re-registration.
